The house is a small, traditional, railway lines-man's cottage, 140 year old, stone built with a large, well insulated. single storey extension. There are 2 bedrooms and attic room in the original house. In the extension there is a single bedroom /office; a living & dining room & kitchen area with views over Loch Carron and to Skye; and a bathroom, separate shower room and a porch.
There is a productive garden with poly-tunnel by the house and 3.5 acres land, currently only used for grazing ponies. Previously we have kept sheep, goats, hens and ducks here, and there is plenty of wild life.
A good water supply comes from the hill above; electricity is supplied by a diesel generator (with petrol stand-by generator), supplemented by P.V. panels, inverter and batteries. A multi-fuel stove heats the water and partial central heating, with a wood stove heating the living area. A new septic tank was installed in 1985.
Access is over a railway and across the grazings. There is more land along the shore, accessible at low tide making a total of approx. 7 acres.
The bay provides a safe anchorage and there are active sailing clubs in both Plockton and Lochcarron. Other local activities include mountain biking, sea kayaking and for climbers and walkers the Cuillin, Five Sisters and Torridon in easy reach.
The secondary school bus for Plockton picks up here and if needed a school run picks up for the primary schools in Auchtertyre or the Gaelic unit in Plockton. There are shops in Lochcarron 10 miles away (by road or 2 miles by boat). Kyle-of-Lochalsh 14 miles away has other shops, a Co-op, doctors, dentists, etc
The nearest station on the Kyle to Inverness railway line is Stromeferry, 30 minutes walk along the shore or 2.5 miles cycle or drive over the road. Buses to Inverness, Glasgow and Uig are at Auchtertyre, 8.5 miles. Our active local community is in Achmore, 3 miles www.achmore-and-stromeferry.co.uk .
This has been our home for nearly 40 years and has great potential to grow fruit, vegetables and animals; most of the grazings could be brought into cultivation. Using the streams on the property there is the possibility for developing alternative energy supplies, (too sheltered for wind power).
